MANSFIELD, PA (8/11/07) — The Mansfield Campus Criterium bicycle race was held on Saturday, August 11 on the Mansfield University campus.
“The weather was beautiful, the racers loved the course and both races came down to 100ths of a second and very exciting finishes,” Tom D’Angelo, Mansfield Sesquicentennial Committee member and one of the event organizers, said.
A criterium is a closed-circuit race around a short course with the winner being the cyclist who completes the most laps in a set amount of time. The criterium was held on a one-mile course complete with six turns, a hill climb, and a steep descent.
Brian Klotz of Painted Post, riding for the Big Horn Velo Team, completed 21 laps in 55:00.706 minutes to edge out Larry Henderson of Stockholm top capture the Group A race.
Josh Beals from Blossburg, riding for Oswald Cycle Works, completed 13 laps in 32:23.735 minutes to edge Daniel Hertzler of Addison and win the Group B race.
